15 Signs You’re Falling In Love

If falling in love was easy, we wouldn’t have a billion songs about it. Spotify’s playlists would be cut in half, at the very least. But how exactly are you supposed to know if love is what you’re feeling?

Believe it or not, there are actual signs that can help you tell if you’re falling in love — some of them even scientifically researched and proven! Before you go ahead and declare something like “I’m in love with you” to the lucky person, read these signs and make sure your feelings are actually headed towards the right direction.

You can’t help but think of them.

So you’re going about your day, doing your usual work, when suddenly they pop into your head. It’s a significant sign that there’s something bigger going on with you two, emotionally at least.

When you’re falling in love, every minute of your day is occupied by that person, no matter how busy you might get. This is a very significant early sign to notice if you want to know where your feelings might be taking you.

Everything you see reminds you of them.

How do you know if you’re actually getting closer to this special person? When everything you see — no matter how small or ordinary — reminds you of them. That porcelain figurine reminds you of a story they told, or maybe the local fast food chain reminds you of an inside joke.

The point is, even the smallest details make you think of them. This means they’re taking up a pretty fair share of your brain’s real estate, and that you’ve shared a lot of jokes, information, and personal anecdotes with each other.

They’re the first person you think of when you want to share important news.

New plants, job promotion, or finally broke that gaming high score you’ve been working on? No matter how corny or unimportant, these small milestones that mean something to you become important enough to share with them.

You actually miss their presence.

Separation anxiety is real! They’ve only just left, but you already feel like you want to see them again very, very soon. When you start missing them even though you just saw them a day ago, it might be time to recognize that this is something else.

Love is an addiction, in a way, and you get attached to the happiness that you get when you’re with the one you love.

You’re comfortable in silence.

It doesn’t matter if you’re in sweats and you’re sharing day old pizza. You don’t even have to talk to each other. There’s no need to fill the gaps with small talk. Just being together feels perfect and right, and that’s when you know that you’re falling in love.

You can’t stop talking about them.

Your friends are bored, to be honest. You keep steering every discussion towards your new love, and you might be trying to keep it low-key but your choice of chat topics give you away. Every small thing reminds you of them, as we’ve already mentioned, so everything brought up just reminds you of some joke or anecdote or story that they’ve shared with you. Short of saying, “I love him,” that’s the best giveaway to all your friends that you’re becoming emotionally invested.

You can imagine a future with them.

No one wants to talk about weddings in the first few weeks of a relationship, but that doesn’t mean you can’t start imagining a future with them. You’re making plans for a concert a few months away, thinking about what it would be like to go on a trip together, and just factoring them into every future plans that you have.

You’re genuinely willing to make sacrifices for them.

Doing your friend a couple of favors is no big deal, as long as it doesn’t put you out too much. You won’t necessarily go out of your way or sacrifice your personal comfort for someone who means nothing to you.

You’ll know you’re falling in love when you willingly give up your personal time or change your plans to accommodate them.

You feel safe when you’re together.

It’s a little hard to explain, but finding safe space with another person is very important. Some people use the term “safe harbor” to explain how they’re falling for you. Basically, when you’re together, you find peace and happiness. Everyone in this fast-paced world is constantly in flux. There’s always something going on. With them, though, you feel safe and protected.

Even the most boring of things become interesting when you’re together.

You might not be a fan of grocery shopping, but there’s no way you’re saying no when they invite you out to run a few errands. Even picking out ketchup becomes a high octane experience because you’re doing it together!

Everything feels easy.

Sure, love is complex and definitely requires some effort, but when the feeling is right, you don’t feel like you’re fighting an uphill battle. You just fit together as well, as the cliche goes. You know how the song says, “easy like a Sunday morning,” right?

You’ve completely forgotten your ex.

Sure, we’re not saying it’s all about rebounds! We’re talking about getting wrapped up in the person entirely that you forget there’s been anyone else. When you go to certain diners or landmarks, you don’t think of the things you and your ex did there. Instead, you see everything with fresh eyes because now you’re going through a brand new experience with someone else.

Seeing them sad actually breaks your heart.

Nothing says “I’m falling for you” like actually feeling for someone else’s pain. You share their joy and their sorrow. This is genuine emotion, too. You’re not playing up the sympathy just because you want to get closer to them.

You’re more willing to try new things with them.

Never been interested in sky-diving, but now you’re actually considering the idea because they brought it up. How’s that for love? You don’t have to sky-write “I love him” to get the message across, because your enthusiasm for their interests already speaks volumes.

You’re tempted to say, “I’m in love with you” and make things official.

Finally: the most important sign. You’re so in love that you just want to make sure you’ve got this on lockdown. You’re worried that they won’t know how you feel and they’ll get away. All you want is to be clear and vocal, to let you know where you stand, and to make sure that there’s no misunderstanding as far as your relationship is concerned.
